How are Seeds planted?

"And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" - Romans 10:15

At my church small group, we were discussing witnessing. One gentleman is a door knocker. He regularly hands out tracts in line at the grocery store, goes door to door telling strangers about Christ and how He can change their lives. Another approach, and this is where I fall, are relationship builders. You get to know the individual, building a friendship and showing them Christ in daily life. Different approaches, each used by God to bring people to Himself.

It's like how seeds are planted. God uses multiple methods to spread seeds and grow plants.

  • Humans. You can pick up a pack of flower or vegetable or any kind of seeds at the store, go home, and plant them yourself.

  • Animals carry and bury seeds in hopes of finding them later for a winter snack, only to eventually find a tree in the seeds place.

  • Birds fly all over and drop seeds in flight.

  • Wind transports seeds across plains, over mountains and rivers where they fall to the ground and grow.

  • Water currents can transport seeds to be planted along the river bank.

  • Fire can distribute and plant seeds for plants to grow in the destroyed area.

In the same way, God uses different ways to spread the Gospel and bring people to Himself. Remember it's not you or me that saves someone. It's God. We just have to be willing in whatever approach He has put in our heart. But in all the ways that seeds are spread, action is what is happening. Humans plant, animals carry, birds fly, wind moves, water runs, and fire burns. In the same way we have to take action. Action that God will make into a growing member of His family tree.
