Prayer over Sympathy

What should you do when you see Emergency Vehicle lights?

Emergency vehicle lights are typically a bad sign. Whether you are riding in an ambulance or you watch a firetruck rush past, those lights represents pain and fear. As a spectator, we go into sympathy mode.

  • "I feel so bad for them."

  • "I hope they will be okay."

  • "I wish there was something I could do?"

We sympathize then go about our day. What if instead of having sympathy, we took action. An action that all Christians often times use as a last resort. An action that we typically prelude with "At least we can..."

Jesus was very specific in telling us that if we ask in prayer and believe, we will receive.

  • Matthew 21:22, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

  • Mark 11:24, "Therefore I tell you , whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

  • Luke 11:9-10, "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened."

  • John 15:7, "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."

Why would we wait when Jesus tells us He has answered?

Our first reaction should be to pray. An automatic response that's not filtered by cultural norms, or the community we are participating in at the moment. Whether it's seeing an ambulance flash by on a random road or an ambulance sitting outside your neighbor's house at 1am, as Christians our reaction should be prayer first- Jesus hears us and gives freely, why not do what works first?

Prayer: A simple habit to form, but a life changing one to have.
