Out of the Church and Into the Community

Have we become a group of people that call ourselves Christians, but still keep ourselves compartmentalized within the communities we live, work and play in?
We have a home community, work community, sports community, school community, etc. But if a member from one of these communities were to see us in our church community, would they recognize us?
As Christians, we have a single identity. An identity rooted in Jesus Christ, not just around our church community but in every community. The definition of Christian is follower of Christ. If that is true, then in any community, the people around you should know and recognize you as a follower of Christ. In Romans 10:17, Paul writes, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” We are called to spread the Word. To tell others and show others Christ. In every community we belong, that message should be loud and clear.
John 20:21, “Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” So instead of keeping Christ inside the church, take him out to your neighborhood, your work, to whatever community you belong, spread the message through the Word of Christ.
Maybe it’s time to get into your community through a neighborhood prayer walk?
